Strategy AC5.1: Prioritize implementation of transportation alternatives that connect employment and housing throughout the region, including rural areas.
Land use patterns over the past 60 years have resulted in the separation of jobs, homes, and community destinations. Commuting times and travel distances have increased. Transportation alternatives that connect employment and housing are necessary to sustained economic prosperity. If implemented, individuals will spend less on gas, air quality will improve, and the total vehicle miles traveled in the region will decrease, which results in cost savings all around.
