Strategy RC2.9: Identify candidates in the region to apply for the USDA Forest Service Community Forests Program, where financial assistance is provided to communities to sustainably manage forests for multiple public benefits.

Strategy Description

The USDA Forest Service offers grants to local governments, tribal governments, and qualified non-profit entities for up to 50 percent of project costs of conserving forests for the benefit of the public. Recreational uses are encouraged. Properties must be at least 75 percent forested. Members of the public must participate in the development of a community forestry plan. The Community Forests Program has a requirement that all projects must be part of a broader landscape strategy.
