Strategy RC2.4: Identify eligible farms and assist with Century Farm designation through the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services.
The long history of farming in the region is embraced and celebrated through the Century Farms program. To be eligible, a farm must have had continuous ownership by a family for 100 years or more. There are already 38 designated Century Farms in the GroWNC region: seven in Buncombe, 19 in Haywood, six in Henderson, three in Madison, and three in Transylvania. County Cooperative Extensions, in association with many local partners, are working to identify additional farms that could qualify for Century Farm designation.
