A key component to increasing the accessibility of local farmers markets includes building a welcoming and inclusive market that includes programming to increase the spending power of low-income clientele. In addition, a comprehensive and far-reaching marketing, outreach, and education campaign is critical for success. Developing a strategic campaign targeted at the unique needs of the local community and implemented in collaboration with community partners will build awareness and enhance participation. Successful techniques to reach target audiences include: grassroots outreach campaigns, advertisement in alternative-language newspapers and radio, and partnerships with existing community groups.
