Strategy AC7.2: Increase the number of publicly-accessible community facilities throughout the region that are adequately equipped with internet access, including computers available for public use.

Strategy Description

Computer use is already available to patrons with a valid library card at the public libraries throughout the region, for one hour at a time. There is an opportunity to add short-term public computer and internet access opportunity not limited to online job applications through kiosks at key social services, such as town halls, DSS offices, county health departments, food pantries and homeless shelters. This would require a combination of public and private investment for the capital and ongoing maintenance of equipment.

Additional Information / Case Studies

    • One way would be to provide Wi-Fi on buses

    • The Town of Carrboro provides free internet access to all mobile technology users throughout public spaces within town limits.
